Drivern Technology is a ride-hailing company that cares about drivers – especially women drivers – and shares profits with our drivers through The Drivers Cooperative. Drivers make more on each trip, our profits are shared with drivers, and drivers have democratic control over the decisions that affect their lives.
Our mission is to end unfair conditions in the for-hire vehicle industry through systematic change– putting drivers in the driver’s seat of the platform economy. Change is urgently needed. In Zambia as everywhere else in the world, our competitors operate by taking advantage of the driver workforce. They push drivers into poverty by taking a commission of up to 25% on each trip and introduce many burdens such as operating fees. Drivers are made responsible for the cost of vehicle purchases, insurance, and maintenance. Our competitors put the risk of doing business onto partner drivers, and often treat them as independent contractors in order to avoid sharing their profits with the hard working drivers. Independent of this crisis, most drivers didn't even own the cars they drive, a reflection of Zambia’s deep wealth gap and the unequal structure of the ride-share platform economy.
Drivern Technology has launched a partner Drivers Co-operative to empower drivers through profit sharing, provide them with better pay in the short term, and enable drivers to rise out of poverty. The Drivers Co-operative (Zambia) Registration No.42022000853
